The Importance of Details: Eating and Sleeping in the Galapagos

When we are kids, many of us dream of being adventurers. We feel an urge to go beyond the walls we’ve always known. The exhilaration and thrill we feel when we try something for the first time, or when we see something new and different is hard to describe. Discovering new paths, cultures, landscapes and new life fills our soul and spirit more than any material thing ever will. Even after growing up, we keep on looking for an adventure to awaken our hearts, which is why many people put the Galapagos Islands on their bucket lists. Maybe they heard about them on the news or during biology class when introduced to Charles Darwin. However it is the idea got there, one thing’s for sure: the Galapagos will meet everyone’s expectations, and then some. An adventure can be enjoyed in many ways, but at the end of the day, no matter where you happen to be, it’s the little details – like a hot shower, a delicious meal and a comfy bed – that can make all the difference when it comes to making the most out of your Galapagos adventure. And when we say this we don’t just mean eating and sleeping in the Galapagos, we mean eating and sleeping in the Galapagos, Santa Cruz II-style!

A Hot Shower

There are many ways in which travelers discover the Galapagos. Some like to take it slow and prefer to soak in the details of their surroundings, while others like to bring out their inner adventurer and try to explore as much as they can. Whichever way you decide to spend your time in the Galapagos, one thing is for sure: after a day of wandering and discovering, you will want to take a nice shower to unwind. The Galapagos are located on the equator and its tropical weather can feel warmer for visitors coming from colder regions. To have a warm, soothing shower to compliment your day can go a long way!

 A Delicious Meal

Energy is key in any kind of exploration and the Galapagos Islands are no exception. To make the most of your time in such an exotic location, the optimal thing to do is to wake up as early as possible. Doing so allows you to observe the early risers throughout the animal kingdom. Fuel up on a fresh and nutritious breakfast before heading out to the islands, and recharge your body at lunch with a delicious buffet (where guests are sure to find an option that suits their taste). If there is something special you require, please do not hesitate to ask the Chef! In the evening, guests are invited to the dining room (after a refreshing shower or dip in our hot tub!) and enjoy a gourmet dinner that will surprise your senses and make your trip even more unforgettable. The Galapagos are more than just a treat for the eyes, so make sure the culinary offerings aboard your cruise fall in line with the magical place you are visiting!

A Comfy Bed

When we go out of our comfort zones, we learn to appreciate the simple things in life that manage to give us true pleasure: a hot shower, delicious food cooked with love and of course… a restful sleep. A typical day in the archipelago includes snorkeling with sea turtles and Galapagos sea lions, walking on white-sand beaches, exploring lava tunnels, and looking for penguins and flightless cormorants (among other species of our BIG15 group of iconic species). There is so much going on, so much to see, so much to do that you are bound to feel tired at the end of the day (granted it is a satisfied type of tired). After looking at the sunset from our panorama deck followed by a memorable dinner, guests can head back to their cabins and melt into the comfiest bed, allowing the memories of your days in the Galapagos fill your dreams.

Santa Cruz II is a replacement for the much-loved Santa Cruz, which plied the waters of the Galapagos for 36 years. It is not a new ship; it was built in 2002 and sailed as Mare Australis under the Australis cruise brand, operating expedition cruises around Cape Horn and to Antarctica. Metropolitan Touring bought the ship in 2015 and completely refurbished it, launching it as Santa Cruz II in October 2015.
