An enriching cross-training program
This year, we introduced aninnovative cross-training program for our cherished guides, and collaborators, a comprehensive experience across our vessels and hotels in Ecuador.
It was an immersive training where employees from Mashpi Lodge had the opportunity to explore the enchanting Galapagos aboard our cruises, and conversely, employees from the Galapagos had the chance to experience the magic of the cloud forest.
This cross-training endeavor was implemented to allow guides and collaborators to gain a first-hand understanding of the guest experience at different properties, fostering an environment for valuable feedback and, above all, motivation. “Everyone returned genuinely happy. For some, it was their first experience on a plane,” shares Innovation Coordinator Gabriela Ruiz, who spearheaded the organization of this program.
A total of three trips were organized for Mashpi workers. The first included a group of biologists who embarked on one of our Galapagos vessels. Another expedition group comprised 10 individuals, including 5 guides and 5 forest rangers from Mashpi. The third group consisted of yet another team of Mashpi biologists. Likewise, guides from our three distinct vessels—La Pinta, Isabela II, and Santa Cruz II—also participated and had the chance to visit and stay at Casa Gangotena and Mashpi Lodge.
“One of forest rangers, Genry, used to work in logging previous to working in Mashpi and protecting the cloud forest, told us to step into Casa Gangotena made him feel like a king”, says Gabriela.
This cross-training initiative served as a bridge for our collaborators from Galapagos and Mashpi, providing insights into Metropolitan Touring’s diverse properties and exposing them to best practices from various locations. It was a platform for skill exchange and a source of inspiration that enriched the professional and personal experiences of our dedicated team members.
