Join us on a voyage of discovery from the shores of the Caribbean upriver into the world of the Magdalena Basin. A journey into the heart of Colombia. We begin in the gorgeous Caribbean port city of Cartagena, before making our way up the man-made canal to delve into the Afro-Colombian culture, before arriving at the river proper, at the bustling fish market town of Calamar. From there, we sail upriver through La Mojana, before arriving at the birthplace of ?La Cumbia? Colombia?s musical gift to the world, at El Banco.
Returning downriver, we come to the jewel of the Magdalena, the town of Mompox, a World Heritage Site that seems forgotten in time. From our base, we can explore further, visiting the flooded wetlands and learning about the local people?s ?amphibian lifestyle?. We continue downriver, visiting the unique village of Nueva Venecia, where the inhabitants live entirely on houses built upon stilts. We end our journey in the port city of Barranquilla, famed for its huge Carnival celebrations and dynamic economy.
