Some stories begin by choosing a destination; ours began with a conviction. The conviction that regenerative tourism is not simply a way of traveling — it is a way of thinking. One that asks us to look beyond the journey itself and consider what we leave behind: stronger ecosystems, more resilient communities, and a planet that is better for having been visited.

More than 70 years ago, Metropolitan Touring understood that travel had to mean far more than discovering new places. From our very first steps in the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, we learned that operating within the world’s most extraordinary ecosystems also carries a responsibility to protect, respect, and contribute to their well-being.
That vision has guided us for decades and continues to shape every decision we make in Ecuador, Peru, and Colombia. For us, sustainability has never been a trend or an ancillary program: it is part of our essence. It is in our DNA.
Today, we celebrate a new milestone on this shared journey: Peru is officially Carbon Neutral as of 2024, an achievement that fills us with pride and confirms that when passion, integrity, and commitment are translated into action, real impact is possible.
Beyond Reducing: Our Vision of Regenerative Tourism
At Metropolitan Touring, tourism must be a positive force for the planet and its communities. That is why we approach things from a different perspective: that of regenerative tourism, a way of traveling that seeks to give back more than it takes. Contributing through sustainability is not simply about minimizing impacts; it is about restoring, strengthening, and creating opportunities that allow destinations to thrive over time.
Being Carbon Neutral: Protect, Reduce, and Regenerate
Achieving carbon neutrality involves a rigorous process: we first measure our carbon footprint to set targets based on the results. With those indicators defined, we work to reduce our emissions and, finally, we offset those we cannot yet avoid through projects of high ecological and social value. This process is part of a commitment that began in Ecuador in 2017 and continues to expand across our operating countries, as a direct response to our mission of generating a positive impact on people and the planet.

The Pillars Driving Our Regenerative Commitment
Our strategic sustainability vision is built on four pillars that guide our daily work:
• Education that inspires transformation: through partnerships and awareness programs, we motivate and help teach team members, travelers, and neighboring communities how to implement sustainable practices in their operations.
• Entrepreneurship that strengthens territories: regeneration is built from the ground up, through community and local economies. Through our value chain, we connect networks of sustainable tourism services with local providers, developing opportunities that generate shared well-being.
• Ecosystems that represent our future: every area of high biodiversity is the living heart of each destination. That is why we contribute to its conservation, support scientific research, and seek innovative solutions to preserve what makes our regions truly unique.
• Equity as a fundamental principle: inclusion is essential when building sustainability. That is why we foster respectful relationships and spaces where every individual and community has the opportunity to grow and participate actively in building a more just future.
Peru: a Celebration that Protects the Amazon
Bringing Peru into our Carbon Neutral destinations represents a conscious decision to invest in the conservation of Amazonian forests and in the well-being of the communities that protect them.
To offset our emissions in this extraordinary destination, we work alongside the REDD+ Castaneros de BAM Amazonicos project in Madre de Dios. This initiative protects thousands of hectares of Amazon rainforest through a collaborative model with Brazil nut-harvesting communities.

This project promotes the conservation of standing forests, prevents deforestation, and strengthens sustainable livelihoods for local families. This support is grounded in international verification and transparency standards, including VERRA certification, one of the most globally recognized systems for validating carbon projects and ensuring traceability and climate integrity.
A Regenerative Vision for the Future
At Metropolitan Touring, we are aware that every journey can be a tribute to nature and to the people who make each of our destinations memorable.
That is why we are committed to building relationships grounded in respect and to pursuing shared well-being, as a resilient and passionate community that believes in the power of conscious travel to strengthen ecosystems, uplift communities, and generate lasting value.
Our regenerative vision stems precisely from the conviction that we can create a balance between the traveler’s experience and the well-being of the forest and its people, because travel can also protect, enrich, and give back more than it takes.
Sustainability is not something we do occasionally. It is what we are.
Today, we celebrate Peru becoming carbon neutral, but we know this is not a final destination. It is a new step in a journey we continue to build together.
