Roque Sevilla: Winner!

Contribution to Experiential Travel
2016 Pure Awards

Breaking news!!!

Straight from the PURE Life Experiences Trade Show in Marrakesh, Morrocco comes the fabulous announcement that Metropolitan Touring and Grupo Futuro’s own Roque Sevilla has just won in the Contribution to Experiential Travel category of the 2016 Pure Awards!

And we can’t be happier or prouder!

A lifetime of leadership for environmental causes such as Ecuador’s chapter of WWF, the Charles Darwin Foundation, and the Yasuni Initiative served as a base for Roque Sevilla’s establishment as a top leader in experiential travel. His bold decision to purchase Metropolitan Touring, a company that has developed Ecuador’s most iconic natural and cultural heritage sites has placed him at the forefront of opening opportunities for research, community development and joy.

roque-sevilla2 Building on the company’s existing outstanding operations in Galapagos, Roque grew the product offerings in the archipelago to 3 expedition vessels and the Finch Bay Eco Hotel. Then, he led the group in a significant expansion in mainland Ecuador. First, he negotiated the purchase and remodeling of a key historic mansion on the corner of the San Francisco Plaza and reopened it in 2011 as Casa Gangotena, which is now considered one of TripAdvisor’s top 25 hotels in the world. Then, in 2012, he made the visionary choice of building Mashpi Lodge, a world-class property – now part of the prestigious National Geographic Unique Lodges of the World brand – on a 1,300 hectare private reserve of primary forest, located within the boundaries of the Metropolitan District of Quito in what remains of Ecuador’s Choco region.

roque-sevilla3Everywhere he has worked, he has sown the seeds for respectful relations with local communities, protection for the environment and the use of experiential travel as a means to build connections and awareness of the importance of our natural and cultural heritage.

We want to thank everyone who took the time to vote for this well-deserved recognition for our group chairman!

Congratulations, Roque!!!
