Western Andes Multisport, 3D/2N, MT-7026 (private, daily from Quito, by mountain bike, foot and raft) Includes accommodation and all meals.
A classic multi-sport adventure, this trip takes mountain bikes down the slopes of the Guagua Pichincha Volcano, above Quito, through spectacular changes of scenery and vegetation; trekking amid one of the most bio-diverse forests in the world, and finally on to rafting down the thunderous waters of the one of the country’s most dramatic white-water rivers.
Day by Day
Begin the day near the town of Nono, on the road behind Guagua Pichincha Volcano which looms above the capital, on a smooth uphill incline up to 3,300 meters above sea level. Next comes a thrilling descent into the cloud forest lasting approximately 3 to 4 hours, to a delightful lodge near the Mindo Cloudforest Reserve. Spend a relaxing evening enjoying the natural amphitheatre of the forest’s night sounds. (L, D)
The second day is dedicated to exploring one of the world’s most bio-diverse regions: the cloudforests of Mindo. Here, trek to beautiful waterfalls set in stunning primary cloud forest full of dozens of orchids and butterflies, and spot some of the area’s 450 species of birds, including the renowned Andean Cock of the Rock. In the afternoon, return to the lodge for a relaxing evening in the forest cabins. (B, L, D)
