Machu Picchu named 2011 Best Green Destination in South America
PromPeru reports that The World Travel Awards recognized Machu Picchu Citadel as 2011 Best Environmental Destination in South America for the second consecutive year.
Other nominees in the same category include Abrolhos (Bahia, Brazil), Caracas (Venezuela), Georgetown (Guyana), Pantanal of Mato Grosso (Brazil) and Patagonia (Argentina). PromPeru was also honored by The World Travel Awards as the best Tourism Promotion Commission in South America. In the same category tourism offices in Argentina, Ecuador, Brazil and Chile also competed.
In another category, Jorge Chavez International Airport was chosen as the leading air terminal in South America, outclassing terminals in Brazil, Chile and Argentina.
