For the second consecutive year, the Tourism Development Corporation of Puerto Varas will celebrate the arrival of the winter solstice in the Rain Festival, an event which involves the whole city; this year it will be held between June 18 and 28.
Southern carnival aims to become a magnet for tourism, thus breaking the seasonality that affects the region. The idea is to position Puerto Varas as a destination for the entire year. The City of Roses has the highest number of five-star hotels after Santiago and a exquisite gastronomy, awarded the best regional cuisine by Culinary Critics Circle.
The program for this year has prepared a parade of colorful floats, a photo and a painting contest. The most striking competition is the famous Bed Race. There are other more traditional contests such as the waiters race and the parade of umbrellas, an object that they seek to become a symbol of Puerto Varas.
The shops also compete among themselves for the best window decoration in the city, featuring the graphic symbol: the umbrella.
