Rail & Road Journeys in the Ecuadorian Highlands

Riding the rails, using segments of the tracks that date back to the beginning of the 20th century, is the best way to get to the heart of the Ecuadorian Highlands as the “autoferro” snakes along majestic scenery.

The “autoferro” of the Ecuadorian Railway Company, is a motorized one-car train, like a bus on tracks, which is chartered by Metropolitan Touring for the exclusive use of its guests. The Rail & Road Journeys are a must-do trip through the unbeaten paths and ever-changing scenery of this beautiful country, designed to offer a relaxed, fun and truly authentic experience for world class travelers.

In 2010 the Rail & Road journeys depart on Mondays and Fridays.

Important Note

Metropolitan Touring’s Rail & Road programs along the very scenic route of the railway, will be operating irregularly in the next months due to maintenance of the rails and installation of new sleepers. We will operate by road on those segments where the railway is being repaired.
