Machu Picchu intact after the heavy rainfall

Peruvian authorities have verified that Machu Picchu site has not been damaged at all with the heavy rainfall of the last weeks.  Also, attractions in Cusco, the Sacred Valley and the rest of destinations in Peru are totally accessible and operating normally, and can be visited without any inconvenience.

The most affected was the regular train access from Cusco and the Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu, which is expected to be fully reconstructed and running by the end of March.  An alternative access to the citadel may become available by the end of February, via the route of the backdoor entrance to Machu Picchu town.  This may require a 5-6 hour bus ride from Ollantaytambo (Sacred Valley) to the train station of Hidroelectrica, followed by a 30 min train ride to Aguas Calientes.

The Peruvian National Chamber of Tourism is launching a new campaign "Conozca el Peru ahora" (Know Peru now) as part of an alternative travel package, to show that Peru is much more than just Machu Picchu.  In that sense, Metropolitan Touring Peru (MTP) is working to reprogram the itineraries of guests that are expected to visit Peru during February and March, by replacing their visit to Machu Picchu with additional excursions and activities in the Cusco area, the Sacred Valley or other wonderful Peruvian destinations.
